The Tribal Development Affairs of J&K has been seriously thinking to take up the Tribal development related programmes to its new heights. In this connection we have studied the working of our neighboring state H.P., being a role modal in this sphere and after interaction with the authorities of Himachal Pradesh Tribal Development Department, a proposal has been submitted to the Government for its implementation on the similar lines. The Government is quite serious about the development of the Tribal areas. A series of meetings were taken by the commissioner secratary Socail Welfare and necessary guidance was conveyed to achieve the goal. We hope the year 2009-10 will bring cheerful news for the Tribal related people.

Annual Draft Plan 2009-10
In order to solve the problems of Tribals of Jammu and Kashmir, the Government has created a separate Directorate of Tribal Affairs in the month of July 2008 vide Government Order No: 293 SW of 2008, Dated: 23-07-2008. Besides, implementing the various Centrally Sponsored Schemes of Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, it intends to work for the Welfare and Upliftment of Tribals by implementing the State Sponsored Schemes in the various Sectors in order to make this marginilized section of the society self-reliant so that they are able to cross the poverty line and come up to the level of general population in the overall Socio-economic, spheres. For this purpose, the Directorate has identified some thrust areas which are need to be addressed on priority during the coming financial year i.e., 2009-10.
